Things To Do in Weymouth

1. Nothe Fort – Weymouth

Nothe Fort in Weymouth is a historical landmark near the harbour. Started in 1860, the fort was completed in 1872 with three distinct levels. It was used as a coastal defence for the next 100 plus years, seeing action in World War Two. Today the fort is home to a museum with many fascinating military artefacts. It is also the home to a huge calender of events including festivals and re-enactments.

2. Sealife Centre – Near Lodmoor Park Weymouth

The Sealife Centre is based near the entrance to Lodmoor Country Park. Its a fantastic day out for the family. Great whatever the weather as all the aquariums are covered. A cafe is on site or plenty of space for a picnic. A open rock pool area, is a firm favourite with the little ones.

3. Weymouth Beach

Weymouth beach is wide and sandy. Largely regarded as very safe batheing waters, which have been awarded Blue Flag status in years past. Parking is plentiful and within a short walk of the beach. You will find plenty to enjoy, arcades, beach chair hire, pedalo hire, cafes and toilets on site.

An award winning attraction. Sandworld is a covered exhibition of huge sand sculptures that are regularly changed and updated. If your talents are limited by a bucket and spade you will really appreciate the skill that goes into these works of art. Alot of sculptures are aimed at the little ones.

6. Weymouth Harbour

If you love to sit and watch the world go by – there is no better place to relax than Weymouth Harbour. This vibrant working harbour is home to several interesting shops and many good eateries that overlook the boats. Many premium events are held here, such as the famous Seafood Festival! You might even be lucky enough to see ancient war ships docking for a few days.

Abbotsbury Swannery is the worlds oldest mute swan colony. Initially started by monks over 400 years ago, the colony is now home to thousands of birds. Well worth a visit, especially in Spring when the cygnets hatch.
